About

My Broadsheet is…

the community-powered news site for the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis. It covers news and events in Cooper, Hiawatha, Howe, Longfellow, and Seward.

We are…

Rebekah and Mitch, and we live in the neighborhood. We love Longfellow and everything it has to offer. We wanted to do our part to help create a vibrant discourse within our community about the latest happenings and issues that our area faces. By doing so, we hope to strengthen the ties between the families, neighborhoods, and businesses of Longfellow.

Let us know if you have any suggestions or tips, we’d love to hear them. You can email us at tips@my-broadsheet.com.

What’s in a name…

Newspapers have long been printed on broadsheets, large sheets of paper that, when folded, are about 12-1/2 inches across and have a horizontal fold – like the Star Tribune or Pioneer Press.

More interestingly, they became popular in Britain in 1712 when the government began taxing newspapers based on the number of their pages. To avoid the tax, newspapers used a larger page size (the broadsheet size) to reduce the number of the paper’s printed pages. We aren’t a print publication, but we were drawn to the name My Broadsheet because of its historical link to the printed page. We also like to think that we are carrying on the broadsheet torch – avoiding the costs of a print publication (paper, printing, distribution) by being an online-only publication, while still getting news and information out to our neighbors.

Valuable info. Lucky me I found your site accidentally, and I am surprised why this twist of fate didn’t happened in advance! I bookmarked it.
