Sunday night a man was crossing the light rail tracks at 42nd Street and Hiawatha and was struck and killed by an oncoming Blue Line train.
“The gate arms controlling the intersection were in the lowered position and the train came to a stop a short distance beyond the intersection after striking the man,” agency spokesman John Siqveland told MPR. “Metro Transit police are investigating the situation, and so is Metro Transit’s rail safety division.”
The Star Tribune reported that Metro Transit police were conducting a crash reconstruction on Sunday night. Police will also review gate arm and signal operation data.
The identification of the man has not yet been released.
